About the Academy

The Dover High School Health Sciences Academy is a comprehensive four-year program designed for students with an interest in pursuing careers in a variety of fields including, but not limited to, paramedic, personal trainer, nurse, medical technician, health & physical education instructor, physical therapist and pharmacist. This innovative program provides structured learning experiences and specialized courses that will prepare students for future studies and enable students to graduate with transcripted college credits and personal trainer certification. Students who wish to join the Health Sciences Academy must complete an application for acceptance, participate in interviews with Administration, and maintain a grade of “C” or higher in all Math/Science courses. Students must also complete health science career shadowing opportunities beginning in 10th grade.

Dynamics of Health Care in Society is an orientation to health care and delivery, from an interdisciplinary perspective, with a focus on process skills to include critical thinking and self-directed learning abilities.

Medical Terminology

Medical Terminology is the study of words that pertain to body systems, anatomy, physiology, medical processes and procedures and a variety of diseases. It provides specialized language for the health care team.
