AP Capstone

About the AP Capstone

The Dover Public School District is very proud to announce that Dover High School has been selected to participate in the prestigious Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma Program. Offered by the College Board, the AP Capstone Program allows students to develop college-readiness skills through two new Advanced Placement courses, AP Seminar and AP Research. Taken in concert with AP content area courses, students develop strong research, collaboration and communication skills transferable to college and careers. Students who successfully complete AP Seminar and AP Research and achieve scores of 3 or higher on 4 or more AP exams will receive the AP Capstone Diploma.

Earn College Credit

Currently, there are only twelve high schools in New Jersey that are offering the AP Capstone Program. School participation is by application only. Dover High School was successful in demonstrating to the College Board that the implementation of the AP Capstone program would be concomitant with the existing Dover Public School District Goal to increase student technology skills and overall student achievement by developing and implementing student-centered lessons that effectively infuse technology.

Technology Infused Learning

The Dover High School iPad program is integrated into the AP Capstone program and supports and encourages student acquisition of the vital teamwork, research and analysis skills necessary for college and beyond.

Collaborative Learning

AP Seminar, which will be offered Sophomore year to students enrolled in AP US History, stresses student teamwork and collaboration as teams identify, research and analyze an issue. Each team member brings her/his individual findings and perspectives to the group. The team collaborates to determine solutions or resolutions and creates a team multimedia presentation and oral defense.
